Development Status Review
The People’s Planning Campaign is regarded as a landmark development initiative in the social history of Kerala. Through decentralization of power and active public participation, it created a platform for identifying the genuine needs of the people and implementing development projects accordingly.
From the Ninth Five-Year Plan onwards, people actively participated in planning and implementing infrastructure development and welfare projects including roads, bridges, buildings, agriculture, and animal husbandry. This model of participatory development gained worldwide attention.
Enmakaje Grama Panchayat also successfully implemented numerous projects in agriculture, development, welfare, and infrastructure sectors. Various schemes were introduced to increase farmers’ income, and important interventions were made in the animal husbandry sector.
Several projects were planned and implemented to improve the socio-economic conditions of women, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes. Enmakaje Grama Panchayat was the first Panchayat to introduce a wage-support scheme for paddy cultivation.
Organic farming methods were widely promoted, and timely measures were taken to control Mahali disease affecting arecanut cultivation. Initiatives were also undertaken to reclaim fallow land for cultivation and to expand vegetable farming and other agricultural activities. These efforts laid a strong foundation for comprehensive agricultural development in the Panchayat.
